From this graph you can clearly see there is far more traffic over the southern border than over the northern border. Also, there was a significant drop in traffic across both borders in spring of 2020, but traffic has been steadily increasing since early 2021 (especially on the southern border).
The heatmap reveals that California and Texas dwarf all other border states in both absolute number of crossings and rates of increase year-over-year.
As seen above, arrivals in mid-2021 were at roughly the same level as pre-COVID, but the number of encounters nearly tripled.
